Parkdale lava flow5/28/2023 ![]() If you're planning to pick fruit with your kiddos, you'll want to bring a wagon since (for little kids) it can be a lot to walk down the road to access all of the orchards. There is plenty of fruit to pick close by the farm stand and home, but LOTS of pickings all the way down the country road and through the orchards. Once you've paid up, a friendly team member will show you the map so you know where you can pick that day, and based on the tier and type of fruit you want. For example, there are two tiers of apple pricing depending on the varietal you will pick. Their options include sizes from a grocery bag to large boxes, and there are different tiers of pricing depending upon the fruit you want. Gorgeous orchard, abundant farm stand, super friendly staff and LOTS of delicious fruit to pick! The U-Pick process involves wearing a mask and entering the farm stand to pre-pay for the container you will fill with fruit. We were there 7 days and could have stayed longer. You can see Mount Hood, Mount Jefferson, and the Sisters. On land I would suggest to visit the scenic look out points. Lava, pressure and time have created works of art. The water in the river is crystal clear and cold which is a big contrast to the green warm water of Billy Schnook. ![]() Would suggest to go to “clear water” where the green water of Lake Billy Schnook meets the fresh mountain river. Lots of opportunity to rent house boats, jet skis and other watercraft. There is a marina for fuel and general store for things you forgot( like a case of water). Great to board kayak roller launch into water easy. There is a courtesy dock that was extremely useful. Made it easy to take turns on the water with large family. And grassy tree shaded play area for kids on the bank with protected swim area right next to boat launch. AT&T had reception but T-Mobile users were out of luck in camp. Hiking trail and small amphitheater area for a large group gathering. Clean showers were a blessing at the end of the day! There was lots of wild life and deer. The campsite was large and the bathrooms were cleaned everyday. We camped at Crooked River Campground in the Cove Palisades State Park. ![]() The bathrooms are in the Visitors Center and there areĪ nice hike through an amazing basalt flow from Lava Butte with great views of the Cascade Mountains.Īmazing place to vacation. You can return to the Visitor Center or continue to the Trail of the Whispering Pines. You will have great views of the surrounding mountains A great place to learn about the Newberry National Volcanic Monument and to hike though ancient lava flows.
